Target drops DEI program

DEI programs come to an end for multiple popular corporations

The police killing of George Floyd was an act that devastated the city of Minneapolis and its image. So much so that the Minneapolis-based Target created a DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion) program that encourages the involvement of LGBTQ people, people of color, veterans, and people with disabilities. The program also works with minority suppliers to distribute their products throughout Target’s 2,000 stores nationwide.

On Friday, Target announced that it would be ending its DEI program. Following other corporations that have ended theirs as well: Walmart, Ford, McDonald’s, Meta, John Deere, Harley Davidson, and more.

The move comes after Donald Trump resumes office as the 47th president and immediately signed an executive order to end DEI programs within the federal government.
