Life is no good without the life of the party
In recent days, Party City has shaken up the retail industry with their announcement of the permanent closings of all of their locations nationwide.
But did you know that there are many other popular retailers like Party City that are either cutting their operations in a drastic number and/or permanently closing their doors forever in 2025. Here is a listing of those companies.
- Party City has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy and will be closing all of their corporate locations throughout the United States. It is unclear how the franchise locations will weather this storm. For a full listing of all the stories that are closing please visit USA Today.
- Macy’s announced plans in February that they will be closing 65 stores by the end of 2025.
- Office Depot – Since the 2013 merger of Office Depot and Office Max. The company has been working stragically to lower their cost and operations. There is no word available on just how many stores and what locations the company would be closing.
- Walgeens – The pharmacutical company announced their plans to close 500 locations in 2025, and by 2027 a total of 1,500 locations will be closed.
- Dollar Tree – Low performing locations of the company will be closed in 2025
- Foot Locker – In 2023, Foot Locker had a total of 1,300 stores and had made plans to close 400 under performing stores through 2026.
- Starbucks – No word on exactly how many stores Starbucks plan on closing, but the company is said to be closing several stores in 2025 to help the company optimize locations.
- CVS – The company is reported to be expanding its healthcare services and will be eliminating overlapping and low foot traffic locations.
- Sears – Yes, its hard to believe that Sears is still around and actually thriving in some areas, but the company is looking to close some of these locations as well.
- Gamestop – With a loss of foot traffic in area malls and the shift from physical games to now downloable games. Gamestop has reinvented themselves by selling reo game systems to fans of the game field. There is no word on jsut how many locations
- Advanced Autoparts – The company is being reported to be closing more than 700 stores by the middle of 2025.
