City workers clearing out homeless encampment ran over homeless man sleeping

Atlanta, Georgia – City workers clearing out a homeless encampment found a man dead during their cleaning efforts.

It is being reported that the man was living in an encampment along Old Wheat Street in downtown Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn District. Witnesses to the incident shared with Atlanta News First that the city employees did not physically verify if anyone was in the encampments. The employees are said to have only verbally yelled giving warnings.

Auburn Ave, also known as the Sweet Auburn District is home to Martin Luther King Jr’s birth home that now operates as an attraction of the National Park Systems. Auburn Ave is also known for its historical background as being “the richest negro street in America.” As celebratory events of Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday draw near and visitors from all over the world center their sight’s on visiting the King Center. The City of Atlanta may have been trying to clean up the area to prevent any negative perceptions by visitors.

The city will also be hosting the 2025 College Football National Championship on the 21st.
