MARTA bus operator killed over a $2.50 fare
Two suspects have been arrested and the third remains at large
Decatur, Georgia – MARTA and the city of Decatur police are looking for a third suspect in a shooting that resulted in the murder of a MARTA bus operator on Friday evening.
A MARTA employee has provided the A.T.L. a video link of the altercation but wishes to remain anonymous. The video is reported to be circulating among MARTA employees who are grieving the death of their coworker. The murdered employee has been identified as 47-year-old Leroy Ramos.
Reports are circulating that the Ramos’s initial contact with the three men started because of the $2.50 fare. One of the three men did not have the necessary funds to board the bus and Ramos refused entry. The video provided to us starts off with the three suspects arguing with Ramos standing outside of a MARTA bus. One of the three men threatens to spit on Ramos, and Ramos responds back by threatening to beat all three of the men in defense. After a heated exchange of words the altercation becomes physical with several shots of gunfire heard aferwards.
The video was recorded by a MARTA passenger who was standing close by and wishes to not be identified as well.
Two of the accused men have been captured and one continues to remain at large. He was last seen wearing a red hoodie with a black coat on over it, and a black face mask If you have any information on who the suspect may be and please call the MARTA police at: 404-848-4900.
