Tiger Woods Arrested Following Rollover Crash in Florida

Golf Legend Facing Third Major Vehicle Incident Following Rollover Crash and Refusal to Test on Jupiter Island

JUPITER ISLAND, FL – Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested and booked into the Martin County Jail on Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle rollover accident near his South Florida residence.

According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the 50-year-old 15-time Major champion was traveling at a “high rate of speed” in a 30 mph zone when he attempted to pass a pickup truck pulling a trailer. Woods’ Land Rover reportedly swiped the trailer, causing his vehicle to veer off the narrow two-lane road and roll onto its side.

The Scene and Arrest

Emergency responders arrived shortly after 2:00 PM ET to find the vehicle overturned. Woods was the sole occupant and was able to crawl out of the wreckage through the passenger side. While authorities confirmed there were no serious injuries, investigators at the scene observed “clear signs of impairment.”

ChargeDescription
DUI with Property DamageRelated to the collision with the trailer and subsequent rollover.
Refusal to SubmitWoods reportedly refused to provide a urine sample for toxicology.

Sheriff Budensiek confirmed that while Woods passed a breathalyzer test (showing 0.00% alcohol), investigators believe the impairment was likely caused by medication or other substances. This echoes the circumstances of his 2017 arrest, where a “cocktail” of painkillers and sleep aids was found in his system following back surgery.

A Career at a Crossroads

The timing of the accident is particularly devastating for the golf icon. Just this week, Woods made a high-profile debut in the TGL indoor league, a tech-infused golf venture he co-founded. He has been in the midst of a grueling physical recovery process following:

  • A ruptured Achilles tendon in March 2025.
  • His seventh major back surgery late last year.

Before today’s incident, speculation was mounting that Woods might attempt to play in his 27th Masters tournament next month. However, recent reports suggest he may have already decided against competing as his body continues to struggle with the demands of the tour.

“Difficulty” and Recovery

The golfing world has reacted with a mix of shock and concern. President Donald Trump, a long-time friend of Woods, told reporters this afternoon that the golfer has been having “some difficulty” recently, adding, “I feel so badly… he’s an amazing person.”

Woods is expected to remain in custody until at least 11:00 PM ET tonight, in accordance with Florida’s mandatory eight-hour hold for DUI arrests.
