The Tuskegee-Morehouse Legal Battle

“I won’t be remembered for Coach of the Year; I’ll be remembered for this,” says Benjy Taylor as he files suit over the January 31 incident.

Atlanta, GA — A heated HBCU basketball rivalry has officially moved from the hardwood to the federal courtroom.

Tuskegee University head coach Benjy Taylor has filed a $1 million lawsuit against Morehouse College and two campus police officers following a viral January incident. Taylor, who was recently named the SIAC Coach of the Year, alleges he was “publicly humiliated” and “treated like a criminal” after being handcuffed and paraded off the court while attempting to protect his players during a postgame confrontation.

The legal team, led by civil rights attorney Harry Daniels, is seeking damages for civil rights violations, false imprisonment, and battery, citing a “total breakdown” in conference-mandated security protocols.
