Viral video shows Georgia correctional officers attacking inmate

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating a September altercation involving four Camden County correctional officers and an inmate.

The inmate, a 41-year-old Black man by the name of Jarrett Hobbs. Hobbs was being held by the Camden County Sheriff’s Department for traffic and drug violations. While in custody, Hobbs reportedly complained about psychological problems and asked to be placed in protective custody. In a video that has now gone viral, five Camden County correctional officers are seen beating on Hobbs.

A second video released by Hobbs’s attorney, Harry Daniels, shows the five jailers dragging Hobbs out of his cell and repeatedly beating him.

Camden sheriff officials say that there is much more to the story than what the videos have shown. Hobbs is reported to have been combative and punched two of the officers, but no video has been released providing such proof.

Jim Proctor, Camden County Sheriff’s has ordered an international investigation of the matter to begin immediately.
