Grocery chain targets urban and suburban growth with compact locations in Atlanta, Phoenix, Denver and more

The popular grocery chain plans to open 15 additional locations across the country by year’s end, focusing on urban and suburban areas.

Trader Joe’s will target markets like Atlanta, Phoenix, Denver, and Nashville, using compact stores under 10,000 square feet. The push responds to strong sales of affordable private-label items, such as frozen meals and budget wines, amid ongoing demand from value-conscious shoppers.

Executives aim to speed up openings with modular construction, addressing past complaints about limited availability and stock issues. The chain will remain independent, prioritizing fan-favorite products like chili & lime rolled corn tortillas without pursuing an IPO or larger formats.

New stores promise more access to staples, increasing competition with chains like Publix and Whole Foods in select regions.
