Trump seeks to strengthen the United States with both lands
Since 2019 Trump has expressed his interest in the United States purchasing Greenland from Denmark, but Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has ensured that the land is not for sale. The Prime Minister of Canada has also shared similar sentiments: “not for sale.”
Just here as tourists: Donald Trump, Jr. visits Greenland
Over the weekend, Trump had shared his vision with reporters of Greenland becoming a land of the United States. Trump shared with reporters on board Air Force One with him, “I think Greenland will be worked out with us. I think we’re going to have it. And I think the people want to be with us,” said Trump.
During the early days of January, Donald Trump Jr. made a visit to Greenland and said that he wasn’t meeting with anyone. He shared that he was only there as a tourist. There were no additional reports of Trump meeting with any Greenland leaders.
Canada becoming the 51st state
Trump believes that Canada is highly dependent on the United States for resources, and the United States is far less dependent on Canada. Adding with the resources of the United States, Canada would struggle.
“So I don’t want to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on supporting a country unless that country is a state,” the president said. “And if it is a state, the people of Canada would pay a much lower tax. Their taxes would be cut in half. They would have no military problems. They’d be much more secure in every way. And I think it’s a great thing for Canada.”
